Recchia(D) raises more than $400,000 in first 5 weeks-This is my Congressional district.

Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr., a Democrat who is hoping to unseat incumbent US Rep. Michael Grimm (R-C-Brooklyn-Staten Island) in the 2014 election, said his campaign fundraising has gotten off to a fast and furious start. The Recchia campaign announced that it raised over $410,000 in just the first five weeks since he announced his intention to run. Recchia said he has roughly $407,000 cash on hand. That works out to roughly $82,400 per week and roughly $12,118 per day, campaign officials said.

All of the contributions came from individual donors making Recchia’s first quarter a record-breaker, according to a campaign spokeswoman. No other candidate in the district’s history has raised as much from individuals in a single quarter let alone in just five weeks, the spokeswoman said.

“I am overwhelmed and sincerely grateful for the incredible support we’ve received in just the first few weeks of this campaign," said Recchia (D-Bensonhurst-Coney Island). “By starting early and building a positive, solutions-based campaign, we’re in a position to win this race. I’m honored to have earned the support of so many people who have stepped up for our campaign because they know that when elected, I will be a powerful advocate for the middle class, job growth, education, Social Security, and Medicare,” he said.

Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. has served on the New York City Council since 2002. He has been chairman of the council’s powerful Finance Committee since 2010. In 2009, he worked on the rezoning of Coney Island, a measure which sought to create year-round jobs and preserve affordable housing in the community. Prior to being elected to the City Council, Recchia served as a member of Community Board 13 and as a member of Community School Board 21.

This is my congressional district and I am thrilled he is running. I know that Former Congressman Michael McMahon is considering going for his old seat but that would divide democrats here. Grimm is a criminal and needs to be defeated. I am in the Brooklyn part of the district and I would love to see a Brooklynite represent me.
