Lt. Gov. predicts casinos chosen by mid-2014

ALBANY – Now that New York voters have approved legalizing casino gaming, Lt. Governor Robert Duffy predicts specific projects will be selected by the middle of next year.

The governor will name a selection committee to screen proposals. Duffy said once that is done in the not-too-distant future, he would expect actual projects will be given the green light.

“I think you will see the selection process take place, I would a guess at this point because I don’t have any direct knowledge, but I would think between January 1 and the end of June, the end of the legislative session of 2014, my sense is you would probably have some answers soon in terms of where these locations will in fact be,” Duffy said.

The Sullivan-Ulster area is one of three in the state that are set to be approved for a total of four casinos. One of those areas will be allowed to develop one each and the third will be approved for two projects.
