NY'ers divided on Common Core

By KELLY FAY

A Siena Poll released Monday indicates New York voters are divided over the newly implemented Common Core Curriculum. Nearly one-third of voters said Common Core standards are too demanding, just over one-quarter said they are not demanding enough and just under one-quarter said standards are "about right."

The poll, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute, found voters are especially divided over whether Common Core will make students more successful, with 45 percent saying they are confident it will make students more college- or career-ready, and 49 percent saying they are not confident it will make students more ready.

"On the implementation of Common Core standards in public schools, New Yorkers are as divided as a physical education class that just broke up into teams," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said. "There's no consensus at all on whether the standards are too demanding, not demanding enough or just right."

While responses were divided over the impact of the Common Core Curriculum, a majority said attempts to improve New York's schools over the last three years have had little impact. According to responses, 28 percent said efforts to improve education have moved schools in the right direction, 22 percent said they have moved schools in the wrong direction, and 44 percent said they have had little impact.

... much less whether or not it's "about right" or "too demanding".

I think it sounds like a good idea to people who don't have any connection to public schools. They have no kids, have $$ for private schools or their kids are grown. What's to dislike about CCC?

The correct answer to that one is ..... *everything*.

Edit to add: >>>>When given a list of five initiatives to choose from, the top four were nearly tied with approximately two-thirds of all voters saying eliminating corruption in state government; >>>>>>

NOW you're talking. At least they figured that one out.
