Buoyed by de Blasio, education lobby gets an early start

by Rick Karlin

When it comes to the push for more school dollars, it’s almost never too early to get the marching, speeches and advocacy going — as evidenced by the gathering of Education Lobby members and supporters who were in the Capitol on Wednesday.

The group — including members of the Alliance for Quality Education, teachers unions and Citizen Action — heard a brief speech from lawmakers including Assemblyman Karim Camara before marching down to the War Room by the governor’s chambers.

Their goal: more money for schools, especially for the Universal Pre-K that many advocates have long called for.

Yes, it’s only mid-November, and these type of rallies don’t really get in full swing until January, but there was a certain logic here. First, consider the march a dry run for what will likely be constant pushing for funding once the Legislature comes back in session in January.
