Worker dies when trench wall collapses

MAYBROOK – A trench being constructed for the New York City DEP collapsed on Monday trapping three laborers. Two were rescued and the third was killed in the Maybrook incident.

Montgomery Town Police Chief Arnold Amthor said the call came in around 12:40 p.m. at 918 Homestead Avenue in Maybrook.

“Two individuals suffered serious injuries and were taken, one by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center, one by ambulance to Orange Regional,” Amthor said. “Another individual was pinned underneath the retaining wall.”

It took several hours to free him and he was dead at the scene.

One job I worked at I was down in a 3m trench taking a level when the working face collapsed ...

Luckily the works were shielded so I could duck out.
