WEST NYACK (WABC) -- Emergency crews are on the scene where a freight train possibly carrying flammable liquids collided with a truck in West Nyack.
The accident happened at the Pineview Road Crossing in the Rockland County community around 11:40 a.m.
The train and the truck, a car carrier, caught fire, sending plumes of white smoke into the sky.
Authorities say the truck driver was ejected from the vehicle. He has been transported to Nyack Hospital and is reportedly in serious but stable condition.

(72,300 posts)It doesn't look like a permitted load so the truck driver may not have been unaware of the crossing hazard.

(72,300 posts)I wonder if the trailer was equipped to raise the load for more road clearance ?

(71,265 posts)The trailer was not likely equipped for it. I think this is the same line as the derailment.

(72,300 posts)Escorts are killed doing their jobs. There have been loads breaking apart, crushing the pilot car. Truckers with regular loads have come close to squishing me. I wouldn't stand a chance trapped between big trucks.
It's like I'm playing dodge ball out there.
Avoiding the urge to give in to road rage is a problem. The worst I've done is flip someone the middle finger salute. Oh and called a carrier to file a complaint against a driver after a trooper yelled at me the one time I did get a little carried away.

One of the loads from Maine to New Orleans had a 17 foot overhang off of a trailer stretched out to 93' long.
Recently very heavy long bridge beams. We may have a part in the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
I've escorted several huge commercial generators. I talked a little on DU this summer about the trucker who earned a $10,000 fine in NY because we were too big to run without state troopers. I told him to park it after I realized the troopers weren't at the state line.
The widest load I've help to move was 20'wide.

(72,300 posts)Our busiest season is from late spring to late fall. We still run in the winter. But when the trucks need to go into an undeveloped construction site it gets a little tricky.

(72,300 posts)I may be away overnight but Mr ITW's pick-up just developed a problem earlier today. We may be down to one car. I won't leave him stranded at home for more than a day or two.

(72,300 posts)It may be something simple. Or we may have to pay for a place to park it until I can earn enough to cover repairs.
Whatever just one more bump in the very bumpy ride
