Staten Island's Gun Buyback Event Brings In 96 Weapons

A gun buyback event at the Calvary Presbyterian Church in West Brighton, Staten Island brought in nearly 100 weapons on Saturday.

The NYPD says an AR-15 rifle was among the 96 weapons turned in.

Officials also collected a number of semi-automatic pistols, revolvers and other weapons.

Organizers say the goal of gun buyback events is safety.

1. This is good news. $200 for an AR-15, however, raises these questions:

As the rifle is worth far more than $200, why wouldn't the legal owner just sell it to a gun shop or to another legal purchaser through legal channels for more money?

Was it even legal, or was it stolen?

And, if it was stolen, was it stolen to get a $200 gift card?

Naturally, those who bring guns in are promised anonymity, but I wonder if they check the serial numbers and look for legal owners and if they found a gun that belongs to a legitimate owner (not the person who turned it in), would they try to contact them.

I don't know....

3. Good news for gun manufactures

Less supply of guns, means the gun manufacturers can sell more guns. It's all about supply and demand. How do you feel about your tax dollars making it easier for the gun manufacturers to sell their wares?

4. I am not pleased if it makes money for the gun makers.
