Midtown transformer fire causes building evacuation

NEW YORK (WABC) -- There is a transformer fire on the sidewalk on West 51st Street, between Sixth and Seventh avenues, in Midtown.

According to the FDNY, building security evacuated all 23 floors of the building, totaling approximately 1,500 people.

The building and the immediate block continue to have power, but 51st Street has been completely shut down between 6th and 7th Avenues
