Staten Island DA Dan Donovan Offers Support For Gov. Cuomo's Raise The Age Campaign

BY GLENN BLAIN

Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan, the city’s only Republican DA, is voicing his support for Gov. Cuomo’s effort to raise the state’s age of criminal responsibility, but only for non-violent

"We take into consideration a variety of factors when prosecuting defendants under the age of 18, including criminal record, family history and education level,” Donovan (pictured) said in a statement to the Daily News. “That being said, I am in favor of raising the age of criminal responsibility to 18 when the crime being charged is truly non-violent in nature.”

Donovan’s statement comes after Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, leader of the state District Attorneys’ Association, also told the Daily News that she was supportive of raising the age of criminal responsibility.

The state DAs’ association, however, has yet to take a formal position on the matter.
