Queens diner assault investigated as possible hate crime

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A hate crime investigation is underway after two people were assaulted inside a diner in Queens Wednesday morning.

Investigators with the hate crimes task force are looking for two women and a man.

They say the suspects yelled anti-gay slurs at a man and a woman inside the Neptune Diner on Astoria Boulevard in Astoria.

According to police, the verbal dispute escalated into the victims being assaulted with plates thrown at them.

I'll be honest, I was only reading with one eye, and my first impression of the headline was that someone dining with the Queen of England had assaulted someone...!!!

The suspects look like two women and a man--the man looks pissed off at the world...

The victims got hurt, too...

Both were taken to Astoria General Hospital with lacerations to their head.
