Apollo Celebrates 80th Anniversary With Open House

The Apollo Theater is celebrating its 80th anniversary with an open house this weekend.

The world-famous venue is opening its doors so people can check out live performances, workshops and its historic archives, free of charge.

It's the Harlem theater's fifth annual open house and it's designed to educate or remind visitors of its importance in America's cultural landscape.

"They just have a great time and they learn about the legacy and they learn about why it's important for the Apollo to be in their community, because frankly, the community helps shape the flavor and the experience at the Apollo,” said Apollo Community Programs Manager Ade Williams.
