Assemblyman introduces legislation to block de Blasio illegal immigrant ID card proposal

FISHKILL – State Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R, Fishkill) will attempt to block a proposal by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to issue identification cards to illegal immigrants.

Lalor, who served in Iraq with the Marine Corps Reserves, said the mayor’s plan would cause a national security problem.

“Like a lot of amnesty-type programs, whether municipal, state or federal, it sends a wrong message to those people waiting in line to get into our great country and are doing the right thing,” he said. “Whenever you have the ends justifying the means, it’s never good. What has made our country great is the rule of law and if we start finding loop holes to the rule of law, it undermines the fabric of what we are.”

I think Republicans are afraid of the immigrants. Why not just shorten the time that you have to be in the country? Make it a year for all the current immigrants. That way they still have to "wait" or "did wait", but let it continue with the new rules of 1-year for the next 3 years and then go back to the old rules. These Republicans can never think outside the box. The ID card is just a scarlet letter to let people know that they are illegal. I am shocked that any Democrat would announce such a thing.

allows them to participate in life. More benefits listed at the link:

"Effective and functional identification for the immigrant population would mean that they will be given access to services in their community. As "identifiable" and documented non-legal citizens, they will be allowed to open back accounts, acquire ATM cards, file police complaints, lease appointments, access museums, and gain library cards. The ID cards, which will debut this year, will "protect the almost half-million undocumented New Yorkers," though non-immigrants can also obtain the cards.

I had no idea that undocumented New Yorkers couldn't access museums or file police complaints. Goodness I walk around with blinders on I guess. Thank goodness for DU or I would be even dumber.

on people but I also see de Blasio's points as well. To me I am for the more compassionate way of doing things.

9. Republicans are not afraid of immigrants...

They may be afraid of people who can see through their BS. But, as far as I can tell, they have no problems hiring immigrants as nannies, household help, IT workers, teachers, farm workers, etc.

Republicans detest the American worker, no matter what form they come in. And, will use any method necessary to find a free, cheap, or DESPERATE employee.

An undocumented worker is someone who doesn't ask for benefits or pay raises. I believe Republicans dislike Americans, no kidding.

They will stall the immigration process until the last possible moment. The bill (whatever bill) will suck. Then they will wait patiently for a newer group of free or close to cheap or desperate labor.

The job of a republican is to depress American wages by any means necessary. Whether it means standing in the way of helping to educate an emerging educated population in the US, standing in the way of meaningful immigration reform, or encouraging businesses to subvert the visa process, they get the job done.

As for workers, immigrants or Americans...we need a better game plan.
