Wayne County board opposes Henrietta casino proposal

LYONS — The Seneca Nation’s plan to build a casino in Henrietta, Monroe County, is causing concern in Wayne County.

The county Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Thursday opposing the Senecas’ plan because of its possible impact on the Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp., in which the county is a shareholder.

Board Chairman and Williamson Supervisor Jim Hoffman said his colleagues worry that a Henrietta casino would draw customers and money away from the Batavia OTB facility. If that happened, Wayne County would lose money, he said.

The board’s resolution does not apply to any other casino proposals, including the casino that Wilmorite Corp. of Rochester wants to build in Tyre.
