Former Gov. David Paterson ‘humbled’ by portrait honor

Democrat and Chronicle

ALBANY – Former Gov. David Paterson says he’s “very humbled” to have his portrait added to the Hall of Governors on Sunday.

The first African-American governor said he never imagined that he would reach such heights after growing up legally blind in Harlem and Long Island. A former state senator, Paterson will have his portrait added to the hall on the second floor of the state Capitol.

“I’ve very humbled by the whole thing. The last few days I’ve really started to think about it,” Paterson said in an interview with Gannett’s Albany bureau last week. “When these things happen, you think day to day. But when you take it all in and reflect on it, it was really quite an amazing tour of duty in Albany.”

His tour was unlike any other governor’s in state history.
