Senate Republicans May Be Warming Up To Medical Marijuana Legislation

BY GLENN BLAIN
Prospects for the legalization of medical marijuana in New York might be getting brighter.

pot sullivan getty.jpgSenate GOP leader Dean Skelos said Wednesday that members of the Republican conference “have indicated their support” for legislation to legalize medical marijuana and the issue is likely to be discussed further in the conference. He did not rule out passing the bill, but also did not commit to bring it to the floor for a vote.

“There’s no question some members have indicated their support for it, but at the appropriate time we’ll discuss and see if we take any action legislatively,” said Skelos, who has previously blocked the measure from reaching the floor.
