Cardinal Dolan Clashes With Teachers Union Over Tax Credit Legislation

Cardinal Dolan is taking on the state's powerful teachers' union in a campaign to win approval of legislation intended to boost charitable donations to schools.

Daily News reporter Edgar Sandoval and I report that Dolan on Monday joined a group of business and labor leaders to urge state lawmakers to pass a bill providing dollar-for-dollar tax credits to those who donate money to educational institutions.

“Anything we can do to help education, to help our kids, we want to do it as vigorously as possible,” Dolan.

Dolan and other supporters argued the tax credit will spur donations to all schools - both public and private - and also boost scholarships for kids to attend parochial schools.
