First Lady Chirlane McCray Opens Domestic Violence Help Center In Manhattan

In her first public act as Chair of the Mayor's Fund, First Lady Chirlane McCray joined with Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. for the opening of a new one-stop help center for victims of domestic violence.

The Manhattan Family Justice Center will provide an array of services all under one roof for domestic violence victims, including divorce counseling, financial help, and child care. There's even therapy dogs to interact with survivors and provide a calming presence.

McCray said the center - which receives some money from the Mayor's Fund - will serve 12,000 people a year.

"That's 12,000 people who might not otherwise break free from a life of despair," she said.
