Congressional hopeful Recchia opens campaign headquarters in New Dorp

Michael Sedon/Staten Island Advance

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Surrounded by dozens of family and supporters, former Brooklyn city councilman and Democratic congressional hopeful Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. formally kicked off the campaign season with the opening of his New Dorp election headquarters Saturday.

To officially get on the ballot, Recchia needs 1,250 signatures of registered voters in his district, and his new headquarters, where interested volunteers can pick up nomination petitions and gather the necessary signatures for his campaign, will be the center of that push.

"Thank you for helping me out; thank you for coming to get involved in my campaign to unseat the only Republican left in New York City, Michael Grimm," Recchia said to supporters. "It's not about me, it's not about you, it's about we the people."

Recchia noted cuts to the federal food stamp program, a lack of funding to extend construction on the Staten Island Expressway past Victory Boulevard and the high cost of tolls on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge as issues negatively affecting Staten Islanders.
