Katko vs. Maffei: Battle for campaign cash begins in race for Congress

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei and Republican John Katko spent the past week in a fierce, behind-the-scenes battle for donations to fuel their campaigns before the year's first quarter ended at midnight.

Katko, a former federal prosecutor from Camillus, said today his campaign will likely meet or exceed its goal of taking in $100,000 in his first month of fundraising.

The final tally must be reported to the Federal Election Commission by April 15.
