Protests after thousands opt out of New York Common Core testing

Eyewitness News
NEW YORK (WABC) -- A new round of protests are scheduled and disgust about to be made public after elementary school students completed the latest Common Core testing.

The biggest complaint from teachers is that they were not given sufficient material or guidance to teach the new standards.

Many parents decided to opt their children out of the testing, with advocacy groups estimating that more than 28,000 of the state's 1.2 million third- through eighth-graders skipped this week's three-day English language arts assessments. That's more than double last year's number.

Teachers described the test as horrendous, complaining of inappropriate content and ambiguous questions they say do a terrible job of measuring reading comprehension.

We punched a hole in the hull and it's taking on water.

OTOH.. there's so much big $$$ tied to this crap that its highly unlikely that they ( the 1%) are just going to let it go under.

They'll be back.

The bad news for them is..........so will we.

I would like to see protest statewide. I am looking at upstate sources and will post any other protests in this thread.

This "protest" amounts to 2.3% of all students opting out, not really sure I'd even call that a protest. As for it being statewide, that seems doubtful. What's the alternative, these kids are still going to have to take exams, they'll just be in June instead of now? Our kids school handled this very well, preparing the kids and making it less stressed.
