Thruway chair: Tappan Zee Constructors needs to get act together

Khurram Saeed and Theresa Juva-Brown, TJN

NEW YORK – The group building the new Tappan Zee Bridge needs to "shape up" after a construction barge broke free from a mooring for the third time, the board chairman of the New York State Thruway Authority said Thursday.

Howard Milstein also said the Tappan Zee Constructors employee responsible for securing the barges should be fired.

"He didn't do his job and people have to understand this is a very serious matter," Milstein said during a Thruway board meeting in Manhattan.

He said work could be suspended if such incidents keep happening and that the issue had "now moved into the safety of the public."
