Bill requires sobriety test after a car accident

By Matthew Dondiego

The state Senate passed a bill that would make testing for alcohol and other substances a law enforcement requirement following serious motor vehicle accidents.

Supporters of the legislation say it will help better combat reckless driving by those under the influence of alcohol or other illegal substances. As the law stands now, state law permits for substance testing but it is at the discretion of the officer, not a requirement at the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury or death.

In the case of Arkansas, at least, the richest of the 4 Congressional districts is the 3rd district in the northwestern part of the state, which has had a Republican representative since 1967. Arkansas has long had a reputation of being a poor state, but the northwest is enjoying relative wealth and a very low unemployment rate. So people in the rest of the state look to the northwest and think that if they vote for a Republican for Congress or Senate, it will help to bring prosperity to their part of the state, too.

I think it's just plain redneck stupidity. Most of these people in question only seem to know what fox snooze and duck dynasty tells them. It's not all just racism either because I see black children in their families. It's just fucking ignorance. They couldn't tell you one thing about politics that they didn't get as a sound byte from fox.

Lots of them. But I think what has turrned the tide, so to speak, in recent years so that the state now has 4 Republican representatives instead of just 1, is that people in the rest of the state think they can emulate the northwest if they vote for Republicans. Of course, the northwest is home to many megacorporations including Wal-Mart and Tyson's, as well as the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas, which are all helping to draw the bucks into the area.
