CONEY ISLAND (WABC) -- One of the NYPD housing officers left clinging to life after he was overcome by smoke and carbon monoxide while responding to a fire at a high-rise building in Coney Island died Wednesday morning.
Officer Dennis Guerra, 38, passed away at Montefiore Medical Center around 7 a.m.

Mayor de Blasio opened the National Action Network's annual conference in Manhattan Wednesday morning with a moment of silence for NYPD Officer Dennis Guerra, who died after racing toward the scene of an arson fire in Coney Island.
Guerra, pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m., was left in a coma after being overcome by smoke at the Sunday blaze in a NYCHA building on Surf Avenue -- a conflagration apparently started by a bored teenager

I'm not a New Yorker but these people risk their lives every day while helping others, they deserve some reverence and respect, even from those of us who are way over here in far away places.
