Upstate NY GOP house member urges house to extend jobless claims.

Brian Tumulty

WASHINGTON — Rep. Chris Gibson of Kinderhook is among a small group of House Republicans who want their chamber to approve legislation the Senate passed Monday to temporarily renew long-term unemployment benefits.

Gibson recalled that his father once was laid off as a mechanic for Otis elevator company.

“I know firsthand what this is like,” Gibson said Tuesday. “He spent a lot of time out of work in the late 1970s.”
