Bethlehem officials outline casino traffic worries

Jordan Carleo-Evangelist, Staff Writer
In a three-page letter to the developers proposing the “E23″ Albany casino project, Bethlehem town Supervisor John Clarkson on Monday outlined his town’s worries about the traffic impact from the proposed casino, hotel and water park, which he said could threaten to clog Route 9W without proper planning.

Specifically, Clarkson cites a 2008 traffic study that concluded “the existing two travel lane configuration of Route 9W in Bethlehem may be overwhelmed by the traffic expected by 2026, even without the proposed E23 casino.”

Clarkson, noting that study backed the idea of the addition of another northbound lane between Route 32 and Feura Bush Road, continues: “While maximum capacity was projected in year 2026, the proposed E-23 Casino project may significantly hasten the need for the travel lane improvements.”
