Solar plant promises 1,000 jobs in Buffalo

Bennett J. Loudon, Staff writer

State officials on Tuesday announced an agreement with a Japanese solar module manufacturer that could lead to a $700 million investment in a high-tech manufacturing plant creating more than 1,000 jobs in western New York, probably in Buffalo.

Solar Frontier K.K. of Japan and the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering are planning a joint research, development and manufacturing initiative to respond to increasing demand.

"In a release that Solar Frontier is putting out today as well they indicate specific interest in Buffalo," said Jerry Gretzinger, vice president of strategic communications and public relations for CNSE.
