Antoinette "Mama" D'Amato dies at 99

Antoinette "Mama" D'Amato, whose son, Alfonse, credited her personal appeal for votes with his 1980 election to the U.S. Senate, has died at her Island Park, L.I. home.

She was 99.

Mrs. D'Amato, who passed away at home Thursday night, famously appeared in a TV spot for her son that had her musing about the struggles of the middle class.
