Cuomo: Get your measles vaccination!

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is urging New Yorkers to get measles vaccinations after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 129 measles cases in the first four months of 2014, the highest number of cases to begin a year in nearly two decades.

Cuomo and the state Department of Health issued a health alert Friday reminding residents to get vaccinated.

"Measles is a serious, highly contagious disease that is not just contained to young children," Cuomo said. "While many New Yorkers have likely already received measles vaccinations, with the number of outbreaks at a higher level in years the state is taking the opportunity to urge New Yorkers check with their health care provider to make sure they and all of their family members' immunizations are up-to-date."

According to Cuomo's office, the 129 measles cases have been reported in 13 states, including 29 in New York. The state had its own outbreak of 58 measles cases in New York City, which Cuomo's office said was the largest localized outbreak of the disease since 1996.

A funny/sad aside... while still married to my ex (who was the city reporter of the PDT at the time), Matt Hale (KKK stooge) staged a little meetup in the middle of downtown Pekin. I approached him, called him a scummy bigot, upon which his larger stooge friend shoved me backwards, resulting in an injured knee as I hit the sidewalk (still have the scar 24 years later). She admonished me for putting myself in the middle of a story, so I never pressed charges. Matt, ultimately, went to prison for an attempted assassination of a Federal Judge:
