oh goodie, state religion in NC... omg, what a bunch of idiots in Raleigh

Proposal would allow state religion in North Carolina
By Laura Leslie

Posted: 33 minutes ago
A bill filed by Republican lawmakers would allow the state to declare an official religion, in violation of the Establishment Clause of the US Bill of Rights, and seeks to nullify any federal ruling against Christian prayer by public bodies in North Carolina.

The bill grew out of a federal lawsuit filed last month by the ACLU against the Rowan County Board of Commissioners. In the lawsuit, the ACLU says the board has opened 97% of its meetings since 2007 with explicitly Christian prayers.

Overtly Christian prayers at government meetings are not rare in North Carolina. Since the Republican takeover in 2011, the state Senate chaplain has offered a explicitly Christian invocation virtually every day of session, despite the fact that some senators are not Christian.

This is so outrageous, there are no words. Anyone else over these self righteous blankety blanks!

or because it isn't at this point in time

I know exactly what you mean, this is an embarrassment to the State and it's People, an affront to the Constitution, the Founding Fathers, the Nation and it's People - the list goes on and on.

It can easily be used to show just how far the tea baggers are willing to go to ruin our state and our county, but no one seems to be paying any attention.

Now, maybe you guys have a majority of people who want to ignore the Constitution when it is inconvenient (pro-slavery, anti-women voting, no free speech, etc.) but my guess is probably not.

To me, strategically, this should become a "legitimate rape" battle cry -- they want to leave the Union? That sounds like TREASON to me. The first thread I posted in GD has some interesting discussion on it.

...like WRAL, city-data, and News and Observer and almost every comment is against this. I thought being close to the bible belt that more would be in favor.
