Any rational person has got to understand its not a cool thing to mix guns and booze, he explained. You dont sell whiskey to people packing heat. You dont hold a Sunday brunch on the patio on Oberlin Road, around the corner from LocoPops, when your patrons are holding pistols along with their silverware. You dont show ACC basketball games with pitchers of beer sloshing when theres a chance somebody might down one too many and start shooting. Then on Tuesday, the General Assembly made matters tricky.
The House and Senate passed a bill that, among other things, made it legal to carry concealed weapons inside of restaurants and bars that serve alcohol, unless the places explicitly say no. Patrons with concealed weapons cant drink while they carry, but they wont be barred entry where booze is sold.
....
Gusler checked with a lawyer, who said he could be liable in a shooting. He checked with his insurer, who said he wouldnt be covered.
....
But heres one more thing to think about before you judge Gusler. Unless an establishment says otherwise, you can carry a concealed gun into a bar in North Carolina. But theres still a place in Raleigh where you cant.
The General Assembly.

He may already be drunk and belligerent. Call the cops? more guns - maybe shooting starts. Good lord.
North Carolina legislature is sounding like a bunch of boobs.

Financial Impact. If some crazy damn fool decides to start shooting up their business and someone gets hurt? The business owner is liable and their insurance won't cover it.
This won't stop folks from pushing the envelope - and being disrespectful to business owners who worked hard to get what they want and just want a safe place of employment for their employees - but maybe these signs will protect them when the damn fools DO start shooting up the place and someone gets hurt or killed.
If the damned fool survives - maybe the sign gives the business owner someone to sue when the victim's family sues them? The people who do the shooting need to start being held accountable at least for the pain, suffering, and mental anguish they cause.

(11,441 posts)the belligerent types, the ones who have had it drilled into their heads for decades that they're "responsible," pulling some deadly stunt to make a point. Then there's the alcohol plus weapons factor. Then there are the "accidents," like that little girl shot and killed by some asshole who used his AR-something-or-other as a crutch.
Yep, financial impact, insurance, liability, lawsuits... it'll be interesting to watch this unfold.

Are we saying North Carolinians have such a proclivity for violence we will be different?

(11,441 posts)thanks to "responsible" gun owners who really weren't so responsible after all. You cannot deny that. People make mistakes, people are careless, people have short fuses. Quite frankly, people aren't too bright, like this dude:

But go ahead, have your gun bars. I won't be there.

I go out quite often. Hubs and I are foodies and we like great cooking and great drinks, movies, and cultural events (no sports). But I will not set foot inside a place that does not have that ban in place.

(11,441 posts)And I'm sure the gun nuts will do the same thing. We'll see who has more buying power.
You gotta wonder about places like the American Tobacco Campus -- guns, alcohol, and baseball. Yeehaw! Or Lafayette Village in North Raleigh. Say some drunken gun nut stumbles out of the Village Grill, and a patron at the freakin' crêpe restaurant takes a hit. Or the family across the courtyard enjoying some gelato out on the patio. It's insane.

And if you haven't done so before, then it hasn't been a problem for you.
Lots of democrats in NC carry.

(39,345 posts)Look, the "we're everywhere" argument doesn't carry truck with me. I'm from the country; I live in the country. I get it. I live with people who hunt to fill their freezers in the winter. And if they ask, I usually let them hunt on my property because I know they need it.
But if you feel the need to carry to Carolina Ale House or Southpoint movies, sorry I really don't want to know you. The town square, so to speak, should be off limits for guns, IMO. If you aren't an on duty cop, you're just using a penis extender.

And since I lack a penis, nothing to worry about extending.

I was a cop then, and was carrying, and he ran as soon as he saw my gun. I never even had a chance to get my badge out.
Would you prefer had I been a civilian I be found left in a field with my throat slashed and panties around my ankles?

(11,441 posts)Wannabe cops, with danger lurking at every turn? This is what decades of poisoning from rightwing media and the NRA has wrought. I'm amazed at how susceptible people are to it, including a middle-of-the-road family member. He now believes the government is out to seize all bullets, and that Huma Abedin is turning a blind eye because she has some sort of "Muslim agenda." A wingnut neighbor is getting a CCW and thinks it's OK to carry IN CHURCH because, well, the Bible is violent. I just want AWAY from these loonies...

I don't want to live in a society with a Wild West attitude. It isn't healthy, IMO.
That was your job and I respect that. But just to have one to carry around town, no. No sane person should desire it.
