Are Opponents To NCs Marriage Amendment On The Verge Of An Epic Comeback?... Over the last month, there have been indications that the tide is turning typified by both a groundswell of opposition toward the amendment and a confluence of events that have stymied its support. The latest proof that the race is tightening came earlier this week, when the Democratic-leaning and Raleigh-based Public Policy Polling (PPP) released the results of a survey showing that 54 percent of likely voters intend to vote for Amendment One, while 40 percent are opposed. Thats still a strong majority to be sure, but it also represents the lowest level of support that PPP has found for Amendment One since it began polling last October. Perhaps most promising for opponents is the shift in opinion among North Carolina Democrats, who were were divided over the issue in PPPs survey a month ago. The latest poll shows only 38 percent of Democratic voters support the amendment, with 56 percent opposed. Additionally, support among African-American voters an historically socially conservative voting bloc has dropped by ten percent over the last month ...

N.C. Gay Marriage Amendment Has Unlikely Foes
... John Hood runs a well-known conservative think tank in Raleigh. His views aren't usually adopted by liberal groups, but the other day, an anti-amendment volunteer handed Hood a fluorescent-colored flyer to read.
"It says that some North Carolina conservatives like John Hood of the John Locke Foundation say the amendment is too extreme. They say its wording harms the rights of too many people. Well, it's an accurate quote," he says, adding with a laugh: "I'm not used to being accurately quoted!" ...

We tried to find a CEO who supports Amendment One to interview," Crabtree says in the video. (11,441 posts)where "No to Amendment One" sentiment was STRONG. It was a good day to be in deep blue Raleigh, but for the 6-person anti-choice rally, where I was told by a young unmarried couple that they abstain because they "are not sex-driven animals," and by a 20-something male that he opposes birth control, even for medical reasons. Oh, and when I mentioned desperate women and coat hangers, the young woman laughed. I wanted to deck her, but decided to drink NC devil brew instead, and toast my carnal ways. Bottoms up!

(118,278 posts)... The good news for the amendments opponents is that more voters are now aware of the amendments consequences, and if all voters were informed of those consequences, the amendment would fail by a 38-46 margin, the same as last week. A 40% plurality now knows that the amendment would ban both same-sex marriage and civil unions, versus 36% in the previous survey. Those who know what the amendment would do are against it by 22 points ...
