If the NC voter ID law is rammed down our throats...

... then I would like to have the NC legislature file a single amendment.

To absolutely ensure that eligible voters have access to getting an id card, an elected representative at city, county, state and federal has the authority to vouch for an individual in lieu of any id.

Voters can fill out a form like the one in the link, along with a passport photo. The elected official fills out the form, signs the back of the photo, and the voter can mail in the card application or go to a DMV office to get a card the same day.

Yes it's not ideal but it would be a way to ensure no-one is disenfranchised.

Edit to fix the link.

I don't even think that this idea would cross the mind of our presently Republican Party aligned elected representatives.

I'm just pointing to a place where voter id cards are required and after some teething trouble, it seems to work. Yes, voters did get disenfranchised and there was a bit of an uproar about that. But they fixed it now, giving the elected representatives the authority to vouch for an individual who wants to vote and has no other documents to prove their eligibility.

Though if it did come to pass... I suppose the elected Republicans could be inundated with requests.... especially those who staunchly supports voter id laws.

Personally I think that those who supported the voter id law as it is written should be held accountable. Especially since it is about access to the ballot box.

Why would they pass that amendment? They WANT the disenfranchisement.

Their goal is clear...... disenfranchisement.

Why volunteer to jump through all kinds of hoops to vote? When you do that, you're caving in to the teabaggers.

This comment was really meant as a reply to the OP.
