North Carolina Republican’s DWI and drug possession arrest is his fourth in office

A North Carolina Republican county commissioner who ran on a platform of small government and fiscal responsibility was arrested last week when police found him passed out in his vehicle in the middle of an intersection.

According to the Associated Press, this is Brian Berger’s fourth arrest on charges of driving under the influence, domestic violence or drug possession since being elected to the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners in 2010.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Friday, December 7, a woman in Wilmington, NC called 911 to report a vehicle sitting still in the middle of the street. The caller told police that she honked her horn and knocked on the window, but got no response.

Police arrived at the scene and reportedly found Berger — a local tea party favorite — slumped at the wheel of a black rental car unconscious with a bottle of various prescription pills in his pocket.

Anonymous and all. The real question is why does he still have a driver's licence? I guess the laws on DUIs and revocations are really slack in SC.

"I guess the laws on DUIs and revocations are really slack in SC."

Especially for teabagger politicians.

And the teabaggers that just took over NC legislature recently passed a law making the DUI charges much more strict than they had been. So this guy should be in JAIL, not in office.

There's a local bagger County Commissioner here in Kent County, MI who recently got popped for years of sexually assaulting the daughter of a family friend. The sexual assaults began when the girl was 9 years old. And NO REPUBLICAN has asked him to resign. I guess if they vote in a sufficiently mean-spirited & hateful way, baggers can do whatever they want. Well, as long as it's not with another guy. The kicker is that his wife finally uncovered the evidence that led to his arrest. Sick.

Addiction is a chronic illness and recovery is possible. This is the Web tool provided by the MCO http://providersearch.coastalcarenc.org:8081/ There are a number of qualified treatment providers in Mr. Berger's area that would be able to help him progress in his recovery.
