On Monday night, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) officially submitted a request to the Department of Health and Human Services for permission to force the roughly 700,000 people enrolled in the state’s Medicaid expansion to prove they’re working at least 80 hours per month. If the waiver is approved, Ohioans unable to find work would have to get placed with an organization in their county and work without pay to earn the value of their health care benefits.

Ohio’s non-profit Center for Health Affairs estimates that 18,000 people could lose coverage due to the requirement, though advocacy groups say that number could be much higher if eligible people are deterred by the bureaucratic hoops they have to jump through to document their employment status or prove they’re exempt due to a disability.

Republican legislature was going to completely gut Medicaid. Kasich vetoed every single one of those provisions. Then the legislature got the votes to over-ride some of the vetoes, which they can still do. In order to prevent the complete implosion of Ohio Medicaid, Kasich agreed to submit the work requirement. I don't like Kasich but he's the only reason Ohio has expanded Medicaid in the first place. It's the corrupt legislature, not him, on this one.

signed each and every bill presented to him by the anti-abortion zealots restricting abortion rights for Ohio's women. His phony "compassionate" act is nauseating.

5. I dare say

I don't think Ohio's, (or any state for that matter) Republicans are working hard enough to earn that Cadillac health plan or life time benefits, either. I propose that we make each and every one of them do 20 hours a week of non paid volunteer work to "earn" their benefits ...... you know, like pick up trash by the side of the road, clean out the county dog kennels, etc. And make it apply until age 64.

6. Didn't Kasich say his best years were working as an investment

banker, managing director of Lehman Bros. in Columbus, mid 2000s (pre 2008 Crash). I bet. He also worked for Fox.
