Kasich's lead over FitzGerald narrows to 5 points

Gov. John Kasich’s lead over Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald has narrowed to five percentage points, down from a high of 14 points eight months ago, according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University.

Still, 70 percent of Ohioans in the poll said they hadn’t heard enough about FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga County executive, to form an opinion of him. That’s improved 6 percentage points since FitzGerald officially launched his candidacy for governor last spring.

The poll is the first of 2014, when Ohio voters will decide whether to give the Republican Kasich another term in office or whether to elect Democrat FitzGerald instead.

FitzGerald faces a “double-edged sword,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, in a statement. “He has not made much headway in the past three months, but it provides him an opportunity to make up ground among the vast number of voters who are unfamiliar with him.” MORE

I just know that this is going to be a close race so to all my fellow Democrats in Ohio, let us begin again the task of rebuilding and restoring the strength, stability and the credibility in the Governors office.

Personally I was and always will believe that if Governor Ted Strickland had been re-elected our state would be so much more farther down the road. Ted Strickland was a great Governor to say the least. Yet Ed Fitzgerald is a truly honest and decent man who has stood up for the middle class, supported the Unions, and gave a voice to the voiceless here in Ohio.

Also Sharon Neuhardt Will make an excellent Lt. Governor which I believe will propel her to a whole new level in politics doing what she does best, being a representative to fight the war on poverty..

Good Luck Fitzgerald/Neuhardt
