Oklahoma ranks fourth in nation for most costly car insurance

Oklahoma was third most expensive last year.

Yeah, those "conservative" Republicans running this state sure are looking out for everyone!

I've often wondered why it seems Tulsa has more than its fair share of bad drivers. I don't know if they're rude, ignorant, or what--but there seem to be a lot of them, and apparently the rest of us are paying for it.

The big thing I've noticed that people don't seem to get here is where the right lane ends, and has to merge into the left lane. People in the right lane don't have the right of way, and they are supposed to yield to the left lane, but they rarely do, they just start pulling over to the left lane when their lane runs out.

I end up in a close call on the freeway..Usually car premiums are weighed strongly on car theft..is there a lot of car thefts in OK?

Plus the fact that in the last few years, we've had two major hailstorms that damaged or totaled thousands of cars. Add that to damage and destruction from tornados and other storms, and it adds up really fast.

My insurance agent told me rates are high here due to uninsured drivers. Oklahoma now tows cars with no insurance, and requires proof of insurance before releasing the car. Police can also scan license tags to determine if a car has current insurance or not.

I found a Tulsa World article from 2011 that said the rate of uninsured motorists in Oklahoma for 2009 was 23.9 percent. So, your chances of encountering someone without insurance at that time was almost 1 in 4.

I'm sure if the rate of uninsured motorists dropped in the state, the insurance companies would bend over backwards to lower premiums...
