Wyden and TPP

So what happened with Wyden and the TPP? Did he vote for both cloture and the actual bill or just cloture.

He may very well lose his seat. People are FURIOUS and even talking impeachment.

Impeachment is ridiculous given his current term is almost up. Giving him a great primary challenger would be a better idea.

7. There are two minor objections I have to DeFazio

Let me preference this by saying I think he is a great legislator and I'm sure a great guy (I've met Wyden and Merkley, but never DeFazio). First, he's 67 and if he won he'd been five months short of 70 by the time he is sworn in. I'm sure he's in great health, but how long would he want to continue in politics. I think he'd have to make a pledge to stay at least two terms to build up some seniority (it has taken Merkley quite a long time to get into the top 50). Second, we'd lose him as a congressman and the loss would be worse if he wasn't successful at beating Wyden.

I'd rather have someone younger who is not currently in Congress go up against Wyden. That said, if DeFazio is the nominee I'd support him 100%.

2. Seems he voted yes on the fast track measure, which now goes to the House.

Where I'm thinking it will pass, since the republicans, including my rep. Greg Walden, will vote yes along with his R colleagues, 'cause they want to assure the next president, who they hope will be an R, can maintain the status quo, even though they hate Obama. Or maybe they're just as confused as I am about the whole thing...time will tell, I suppose.

Meanwhile, I find it disturbing that Wyden could lose his seat over this. Perhaps Art Robinson will be a much better senator.

3. That is very disappointing

I certainly would consider voting for someone else in the primary come next year. Some names are already floating around, possibly Peter DeFazio or Steve Novick.

5. Thanks for the wake-up call!

I've let myself get down in the dumps about too many things lately, on the political front, but I would absolutely vote for Novick or DeFazio. Already support Peter, though not in his district. Ron's done a ton of good stuff for Oregon, will certainly vote for him if it comes to that. Meanwhile, gotta keep looking up!

8. Now is the time to lobby our congressional reps to vote NO!

I'm looking to attend our monthly county PCP meeting tomorrow night to try and gin up support to get Suzanne Bonamici to vote no on this. I'm sure that she's under a lot of pressure by Nike to vote yes here, since that is where Obama actually was given a platform to speak on TPP a week ago or so here.

Perhaps we can lobby others like Blumenauer, etc. too that we can twist their arms in the same way.

Those in southern Oregon should be reminded that GMO regulations passed in counties like Jackson and Josephine counties will probably get thrown out by the ISDS courts or have their counties sued for tons of money by the likes of Monsanto, if Fast Track and TPP are allowed to pass. I'm sure there are other local issues in different parts of the state where local residents of even Republican districts like Walden's won't like the TPP if it is passed when it loses our governments' sovereignty. I'm sure there are a number of local laws that even Republicans won't like it if they feel they might have them thrown out by corporate powers. Many tea party congress reps are voting no on this too.

9. Amazingly Kurt Schrader joins Pete DeFazio in opposing Fast Track!

Kurt Schrader's constituents should make a big effort to call and thank him for doing the right thing this time. Hope his motivations are right and not just trying to work against Obama.

I'm trying to work with insiders to put pressure on Suzanne Bonamici and Earl Blumenauer to do the right thing now though. They are good on most other issues. 16. I really hope this goes down in flames

I want the president to have something to think about from this whole mess, which is that he needs to abandon pushing the TPA and TPP. If it passes and the TPA is ratified by Congress, I am worried that there will be pressure on South Korea to join it sometime in the future. That most likely will mean changes for the worse here in Korea.

I've already talked to some people to perhaps put forth and pass a motion to say no to Fast Track authority, like we did in Washington County a couple of weeks ago...

Given that Boehner wants to bring Fast Track to a vote on Friday, if we can have a show of force to hopefully get both Susan Bonamici and Earl Blumenauer to vote against this, we can perhaps make a difference there in getting a similar motion passed as well and hopefully it will be delivered the next day on Friday morning to Oregon's delegation to remind them who they work for! US!

Note on the above page of the 18 Dems looking to vote for Fast Track, there are only three pols that don't have "New Dem" or "Blue Dog" next to their name. Guess who two of those three are!

Also note on this letter earlier sent indicating Dems wouldn't support Fast Track, Kurt Schrader's name is on this petition, even though he's listed as one of the 18 dems above too. Perhaps some pressure could be applied his direction too if he switched earlier...

Maybe someone of the press could show up and help magnify us sending this sort of message there too.

If we could switch the number of Dem votes in the House from 18 to 15 (and I might argue that Oregon as a state perhaps has the best opportunity to do this!), we might help stop this crazy thing!

6,000 miles each way. I am overseas in South Korea. I do what I can from over here though.
