Solomon is a Sanders-style populist with a very similar ecomonic message that Lamb ran on and was well-received by voters in the district.

The ongoing financial straights of the UMW pensions should tee up a lot of votes for whichever Dem comes out of the primary if they commit to working on legislation to fix that and ensure the pension can meet its full obligations. This will far outweigh any of the ususal GOP cultural wedge issues in determining who the voters will cast their ballot for.

It's nice to see reality trump dogma for a change.

Thank you for these news and your insights, DeminPennswoods. Always good to have a local, first-person perspective in what will surely be big news in the very near future.

It's nice to be able to talk state politics and issues. There really isn't a good website for that in the entire state!

I don't think he lives in the new PA-14. Correct me if I'm wrong.

On edit: I don't think that Reschenthaler lives in PA-14 either. Don't know about the two Democrats.

If Saccone doesn't even live here, why is he running again! He could very well win considering his name recognition and how well he did.

6 long, excruciating years of having this tool for my rep.

Now it looks like Rothfus will finally get his comeuppance, and I won't get to have the joy of casting a vote to help make that happen!

It looks like the new PA-14 will be even more Republican than the old PA-12 and the old PA-18. Let's hope the Democrats have some really good candidates.

I feel like Saccone will not make it through the Primary, but we'll see.

Saccone lives in Elizabeth and Reschenthaler lives in Jefferson Hills, both places are in Allegheny Co none of which is in the new CD 14.

I know Prigg campaigned for the seat last cycle, but I can't remember if he stayed in the primary or not. Erin McClelland was the Dem nominee, her second go at Rothfus. Prigg seems like a smart guy, but the couple times I saw him, he seemed like a pretty quiet person and wasn't a real forceful speaker. I don't know what kind of general election candidate he'd be.

Don't know anything about Solomon except what's been in the newspaper.

I started following Prigg on Twitter. He is very well-qualified. He came from poverty, joined the Army, and went to college after his service. He's a scientist and a professor now.

I think he's from Washington Co., but I don't know if he still lives there or why he was originally running against Rothfus if he lived in the 18th.

I'll check out Solomon too.
