"Before a possible affiliation begins between the Commonwealth Medical College and the University of Scranton, the schools need more time.
Last summer, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which accredits American medical schools, notified the college that it would be put on probation because of financial difficulties."

"A national accreditation body has put the Commonwealth Medical College on probation because of difficulties the school is having in raising enough funds to stay afloat.... Already, eight faculty members have been notified that their contracts with the college will not be renewed, Dr. Nora said.
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which accredits American medical schools, notified TCMC this month that it would be put on probation, said college spokeswoman Anne Green. Dr. Nora said the probation will not affect the school's incoming class or the "continuing preliminary accreditation." Efforts to reach accreditation committee officials were unsuccessful Tuesday.
State budget cuts proposed by Gov. Tom Corbett would lead to the loss of nearly $3.9 million in funding for TCMC next year, said state Department of Education spokesman Tim Eller.
State Sen. John Blake, D-22, Archbald, is concerned about how state funding cuts will impact TCMC and said he is working on a solution.
"There's been a significant capital investment on this college," he said, adding that the state has given TCMC $35 million in capital funding."
