Coach called racial slur, grabbed by neck at PA state wrestling competition

Accused of using the n-word to insult a coach at a state wrestling competition, a New Jersey man now faces a felony charge in Dauphin County. Donald P. Miers Sr., 72, of Stewartsville N.J. also is accused of grabbing the coach by the neck and threatening to kill him, according to charging documents filed Tuesday by Derry Township police.

Miers’ charges stem from a reported altercation that occurred at the PIAA State Wrestling Championships last year at the Giant Center on the 500 block of Hersheypark Drive in Derry Township, police said.

Last March, police were called and told that Miers, the grandfather of a wrestler, had “assaulted a wrestling coach,” according to a criminal complaint. An investigation was conducted, and police said they discovered that Miers assaulted the Easton Area High School coach because his grandson had not made weight and was unable to participate in the competition.
The altercation occurred after the coach told the wrestler’s parents that he’d be unable to compete, police said.

Miers became angry after hearing the news and confronted the coach as he sat at a table in the Giant Center’s concourse, police said, adding that Miers believed it was the coach’s fault that his grandson did not make weight. As the coach sat at the table, Miers grabbed him, placing his left hand on the front of his neck and his right hand on the back, police said.

Miers told the coach, “I’ll kill you,” before also calling him the n-word, police said, adding that Miers also threatened to “choke the life out” of the coach. Police said they interviewed Miers, who admitted to grabbing the coach. But Miers said he was so emotional at the time that he could not remember what he said to the coach during the altercation, police said.

Miers is free from jail after being released on his own recognizance.

I almost added that but left it in the whites category for this one comment.

A major cultural shift needs to happen here.

I mean, who hasn't done that?!?

And who WOULDN'T blame the coach ... for the lies of the inanimate device known as a scale?

Esp. when he's ... you know ... not one of us ...

deal. Right off the bat my impression was the kid didn't make weight on purpose. Kids sometimes don't WANT to play the sports the parents and grandparents "missed' when they were growing up. Old man will do no jail time though. He'll be right back down to the Senior Center terrorizing the group.

I know a lot of racists here in Wisconsin. They all need a baseball bat taken to "both" heads.
