Primary results, change still on voters' minds
Democrats turned out statewide over Republicans by nearly 200,000 votes. And, that was with all of the special elections in very GOP-friendly districts. Dems nominated an AfAm woman, Amanda Green-Hawkins, for Superior Court. She got around 38% of the vote, outdistancing her two other Dem candidates by at least 6 points. Dan McCaffery, son of former Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffery, squeeked by Beth Tarasi 32% to 30%. A huge margin in Philadelphia, where his dad is well-known and he is a trial court judge, secured 2nd place for him.
In Beaver County, I was very surprised to see Dem primary voters nominate Dee Dixon, an AfAm woman, for Recorder of Deeds. It was even more shocking to see a 29 yr old AfAm county commissioner candidate Julian Taylor, who barely campaigned, come within 300 votes of knocking off former county commissioner and Republican Dennis Nichols for the 2nd spot on the Nov ballot. Beaver County Dems also soundly squashed a comeback bid from former sheriff George David. IMO, if these things are happening in Beaver County, it is a good omen for this Nov and beyond.

For City Council the long-serving incumbent Darlene Harris was defeated by the Democratic challenger Bobby Wilson, who received the support of Mayor Bill Peduto. Other incumbents won re-election nods for City Council.
On the Allegheny County Council, the 78-year-old president John DeFazio (incumbent since 2000) was defeated by his young challenger Bethany Hallam, 29. The incumbent Councilwoman Denise Ranalli Russell, 52, was denied another four-year term by fellow Democrat Oliva “Liv” Bennett, 40. Other incumbents from both parties won re-election nods.
For Common Pleas Court candidate Mary McGinley, the second time is the charm. Ms. McGinley, who narrowly lost in the 2017 general election, was victorious in Tuesday's primary on both the Republican and Democratic tickets, meaning that she will be the only candidate listed on the ballot for November’s general election. She received more than 75 percent of the vote among four Democratic candidates and had no opposition for the Republican nomination.
Longtime Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. faced Democratic challenger Turahn Jenkins and defeated him in the primary election. Several city office holders (all Democrats) faced no primary challengers.

Yes you're right, but I can't say for sure how she's related. She'll run unopposed in the general election.
