Central Pa.'s congressmen unanimously oppose $2,000 federal stimulus checks

All five U.S. House members from central Pennsylvania voted against a fast-tracked bill Monday that would boost the second round of stimulus payments to most Americans from $600 to $2,000.

Forty-four Republicans joined the vast majority of Democrats on Monday in approving the bill on a 275-to-134 vote — narrowly clearing the two-thirds threshold it needed to pass under fast-track consideration. But it’s fate in the Republican-controlled Senate is much less certain.

All members of the midstate delegation voted against the larger checks Monday. Many of them, like U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, R-York County, and U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker, R-Lancaster County, went on record as saying that they think the general issue stimulus checks are an extravagant over-reaction to the pandemic ...

2. Anyone who opposes the $2,000 checks should have his or her Congressional salary reduced to

$600.

And not $600 a month. Make it $600 every 8 months, since that's how long it's been since Americans received the first round of stimulus checks.

5. It is the extension of the unemployment insurance that is vital, along with food programs, and other

essential resources

The stimulus checks should be given to those who need it. There are going to be those who are currently working making up to 150K as a couple that really don't need it, and it really needs to be given to those who need it to pay their rent, mortgage, etc. because they have lost their jobs

4. The 2000 dollar stimulus needs to be given to those who can't make rent, food, etc. Where the

emphasis needs to be put in my opinion is toward the paycheck protection program, money for the states that have been devastated by the mishandling of the crisis at the federal level, forbearance programs, food programs, PPE, and resources to get out and administer the vaccine, and for unemployment insurance extension for those who have lost their jobs

6. It's telling that most of the responses fall in two categories

One is “Yeah, but you’ll give big tax cuts to the rich.” The other is “Yeah, but you’ll give a lot of money in foreign aid.” The second group is mostly Republicans. So he’s also making Republicans angry. That’s significant.

I mean, Dems aren't perfect, but how anyone can say both parties are the same, or even more crazily that Dems care less about the working people...Well, of course it's the brainwashing by RW media, which is probably beyond anyone's control to contain.
