The state budget deficit for the current year is now $400 million lower than Corbett projected when he prepared his new budget. However, Corbett keeps saying that he won't sign any new budget that has one penny more in total spending than he proposed. He wants his cuts put into effect regardless of the state's revenues.
Many legislators are saying that their priority is to try to restore $100 million that Corbett proposed in new cuts from public schools plus some of the $250 million that Corbett proposed in new cuts to public universities and need-based grants for college students.
The State House is about to vote on closing the Delaware Tax Loophole, but that is really just political cover for the real intent of the law - to reduce corporate taxes by ONE BILLION DOLLARS over the next decade.
