The trial challenging the Voter ID law is almost done. Now, the Corbett Administration has filed a motion claiming that the NAACP, the PA. League of Women Voters and a Homeless Advocacy Group should not have been allowed to file the challenge because they do not have legal standing.
In order to file a court challenge, an entity needs to show their members are substantially impacted by the law. That would involve the types of impacts that occur from being low income African-Americans, elderly women who don't drive, and homeless people. The state's own lawyer said the state's challenge has little chance of success.
Usually these challenges are made during the year before the trial starts, not at the end of the trial. I guess it is another one of Corbett's legal "Hail Mary" passes.

Theyre not granted very often, Hickok (attorney for the state) conceded.

(6,819 posts)Since Corbett doesn't care about the offices in the upcoming November, the administration has ruled that voter ID will not apply. I guess the hordes of illegal voters don't show up for county elections. Instead, they are doing everything possible to have the rules apply to next November's general election for Governor and the Legislature.
