State argues NAACP, League of Wmn Voters & Homeless shouldn't be allowed to challenge Voter ID Law

The trial challenging the Voter ID law is almost done. Now, the Corbett Administration has filed a motion claiming that the NAACP, the PA. League of Women Voters and a Homeless Advocacy Group should not have been allowed to file the challenge because they do not have legal standing.

In order to file a court challenge, an entity needs to show their members are substantially impacted by the law. That would involve the types of impacts that occur from being low income African-Americans, elderly women who don't drive, and homeless people. The state's own lawyer said the state's challenge has little chance of success.

Usually these challenges are made during the year before the trial starts, not at the end of the trial. I guess it is another one of Corbett's legal "Hail Mary" passes.

Again, Corbett and his gang rule never cease to amaze me. Hopefully it's almost over, oh please, oh please.

You start challenging standing when you know that you are losing.

McGinley said he was unlikely to grant the motion, “unless it’s extremely persuasive.”

“They’re not granted very often,” Hickok (attorney for the state) conceded.

Since Corbett doesn't care about the offices in the upcoming November, the administration has ruled that voter ID will not apply. I guess the hordes of illegal voters don't show up for county elections. Instead, they are doing everything possible to have the rules apply to next November's general election for Governor and the Legislature.
