Related: About this forumFracking fluids being used as de-icing spray on some NY state roads near Pa.
http://www.riverkeeper.org/campaigns/safeguard/gas-drilling/the-facts-about-new-york-and-fracking-waste/That's not chemical-laden fracking waste fluid being sprayed on the road next to your well. It is just plain old "production brine" in a "beneficial use." Go back to your lives, citizens, nothing to see here.
A previous article talked about the issue in PA.

oilfield waste.
Now, don't go thinking that PCB's are bad for ya! Next thing, you'll say we should not have chased the jeep spraying DDT for mosquitoes in order to get lost in the fog!
I truly don't know how many of us lived over it. There IS that cancer cluster thingy here in Ector County, however...

(18,219 posts)7. And what, exactly, is "properly controlled" use on roads?
If not properly controlled, this waste can run off into adjoining property and ultimately could contaminate rivers, streams, and underground aquifers that feed local drinking water supplies.
How do you keep the brine spread on roads from getting into the water supply? All you need is one good rain or thaw, and that happens occasionally, and it runs off the road. And where does it run to???? Good grief.
I hear that they use it on the roads in Ohio as well.
