But I thought all of that exploding groundwater was naturally occurring?
The term "unconventional wells" in this report means fracking. Older wells did not use fracking.

"The researchers catalogued incident reports filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. This is publicly available data so the analyses are easily replicated.
' Pennsylvania state inspection records show compromised cement and/or casing integrity in 0.79.1% of the active oil and gas wells drilled since 2000, with a 1.6- to 2.7-fold higher risk in unconventional wells spudded since 2009 relative to conventional well types. Hazard modeling suggests that the cumulative loss of structural integrity in wells across the state may actually be slightly higher than this, and upward of 12% for unconventional wells drilled since January 2009. This wide range of estimates is influenced by significantly higher rates of impairment in wells spudded in the NE counties of the state (average of 12.5%, range: 2.250%), with predicted cumulative hazards exceeding 40% (Figs. 5 and 6).'
They found that unconventional wells (horizontally fractured) drilled after 2009 had a failure rate of 12%. That means methane escaping from sloppy drilling practices during the great fracking boom may be much worse than feared. "

For years, renowned activist and author of several books including Living Downstream and Raising Elijah, Sandra Steingraber has been on the front lines of investigating the connections between breast cancer and the environment, and has been an irrepressible opponent of fracking from coast to coast.
We are thrilled to host Sandra, along with other Bay Area health professionals, at a forum about frackings impact on public health in California. We hope you will join us!
What: How Fracking Impacts Public Health with Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D.
When: Wednesday, July 23 from 5:30 to 7:30pm

The scientific evidence proving that fracking is a threat to our health, environment and communities is overwhelming.
Study after study supports the reporting in both GASLAND films. We are extremely honored and happy to announce that GASLAND PART II was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Research.
That's basically the highest recognition you can get in TV news and documentary for knowing your facts.
But the oil and gas industry still denies there's a problem.

The Concerned Health Professionals of New York just released a compendium that compiles a significant body of scientific, medical and journalistic findings proving the dangers of fracking.
From studies on air pollution and water contamination to increased earthquakes and crime rates the evidence is damning. There is no safe fracking.
Instead of taking responsibility, the industry denies the evidence and tries to discredit anyone who stands up against them. They throw around words like hoax and debunked, and hope no one takes a real look at the scientific facts.
The industry is powerful and spends a lot of money on misinformation, but we have you.
Please help us share the truth. Watch and share our video of the week.
You can also buy or rent Gasland Part II on Amazon or iTunes.
Thanks and have a great weekend.
