Here's the hottest PA. State Senate Races - Dems could gain control in November

http://ballotpedia.org/Pennsylvania_State_Senate_elections,_2014

The above link lists all of the candidates, and then highlights the following as some of the most contested races, which are mainly in the southeastern part of PA. Several incumbents are not running for re-election, and several districts have been redrawn. The Dems only need to gain two seats to allow the new Lt. Gov. Stack to cast the tie-breaking vote.

"The Senate districts being targeted by Democrats are District 6, District 12, District 16, District 26 and District 40.[2]

In District 6, Incumbent Robert Tomlinson (R) will face off against Kimberly Yeager-Rose (D) in the general election. (mainly Chester County). Redrawn in 2010, district 6 now favors a generic Democrat by 4 points. Democrats have their best chance picking up a seat in District 26, where the race is open and any Democrat carries a 3-point advantage to win. John Kane Sr. (D) will face off against Thomas McGarrigle (R) in that race (mainly Delaware County).

In District 16 (mainly Lehigh County), incumbent Pat Browne (R) will face off against Walter Felton Jr. (D) in the general election. Browne a well known figure in the district, has come under criticism for pushing Gov. Tom Corbett's priorities through the Senate, which may hurt his popularity in a district that favors Democrats by 4 points.[2]"

Excerpts:

"... probably the Republicans' best hope of picking up a currently Democratic seat is in the 32nd District. Pat Stefano, a Fayette County businessman, is the GOP candidate. He faces current state Rep. Deberah Kula, D-Fayette, in the race that's a major focus for both parties. The district includes Fayette and Somerset counties and part of Westmoreland.

Republicans have designs on another southwestern seat, the 46th, which was captured by Democrat Sen. Tim Solobay of Washington County, a veteran of the House, in a heavily contested race in 2010. The GOP candidate is Camera Bartolotta, a small-business owner.

The Democratic pickup opportunities include the newly created 40th District ... in Northampton and Monroe counties. The Democratic nominee, Mark Aurand, a lawyer, won a three-way primary with 40 percent of the vote in May. He will face state Rep. Mario Scavello, who was unopposed in the GOP primary and who has been running for the seat since its creation.

Delaware County was once a GOP stronghold, but like its neighboring suburbs outside of Philadelphia, has been drifting in the Democratic direction since the 1990s. Delaware County Council President Thomas J. McGarrigle is the Republican nominee there. He faces John Kane, an official of the Plumbers Union."
