They held him until the State Police sent down the handcuffs of murdered Trooper Dickson so he'd be wearing them for the cameras. I'm not looking forward to the police orgy that's been going on over here continuing to new heights.

But I understand their feelings. He killed one of their own. A certain amount of glee at his capture is very understandable.

And I have to say that putting the handcuffs of the man he murdered on him is a nice touch.

That's precisely the problem here.

The area around Canandensis, where the search concentrated - and where he was not found - was virtually occupied by the State Police for the last seven weeks. People were prevented from returning to their homes for days at a time.

What occurred in this manhunt would not have occurred if he was not "one of their own". That is not professionalism.
