Related: About this forumAmerican Airlines cutting Pittsburgh flights to St. Louis, Hartford
American Airlines will suspend direct flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to Hartford and St. Louis in November, a ripple effect from a national pilot shortage and a setback to Pittsburgh's efforts to expand flights and destinations.
Since US Airways, now merged with American, removed Pittsburgh's status as a hub in 2004, annual passenger traffic has plummeted from 18 million a year in 2002 to about 8 million in 2014.
(Back in the 1960s and 70s I often flew Pittsburgh to Hartford, beginning with Allegheny Airlines)

(28,394 posts)I was recently looking for a flight to a southern state. I would have had to go via Detroit! The flight took longer than driving.

Other airlines wold have me fly to, and change planes, as far away as San Francisco, Dallas, etc.

(15,480 posts)An old friend/colleague of mine posted this on his FB page about this cut in service:
Although American claims they are "cutting" flights to St. Louis from Pittsburgh, they were barely operating them in the first place. The flights were all flown by Trans States Air, which has to be one of the most disorganized and, of course, cheapest airlines in existence. During the last year (in which I have had to make numerous trips to St. Louis), the flights were repeatedly delayed and cancelled. Not a single one of those was weather related - they all were because of foulups or just plain penny pinching by Trans States and American. Goodbye and good riddance.
