Not exactly a well known name to me, though I'm not in any party communications loop, it seems like a long shot to go from a small town mayor to US Senate.
It will be interesting to see who is coming out in support of him.
I remember trying to get a replacement for Senator Magic Bullet, Two of those "Very Serious People" in the party structure told us Casey was the only choice that they would support. To me Casey isn't much better than W Va's Manchin.

I don't know anything about this guy but if can capture the bulk of the vote out in Pittsburgh and McGintey and Sestak split the Philly vote then anything is possible. Unfortunately, I think it's going to be difficult to beat Toomey next year. Unless Philly shows up at the polls me thinks the dems are going to be disappointed.

until they died. To see what happened to that town and then have him come in so passionate about a place he never lived impressed me. He's a good man.

Yes, he has been a very active mayor. He has had some national TV exposure as well for his work there.
And he was the first mayor in Allegheny Co. to perform a same-sex marriage:
